Where Art and Home Meet
Nawafidh Al-Watan (Windows of the Homeland) is a Dearborn-based Arab artist collective committed to building a creative space rooted in community, culture, and resistance. We are artists, organizers, storytellers, and culture-bearers coming together to preserve and reclaim the power of SWANA art and tradition.
At a time when Arab narratives are censored, watered down, and erased, we’re creating space for unfiltered expression, collective organizing, and artist-led decision-making. From Tatreez circles and Dabkeh to visual art, music, and oral storytelling, we honor our roots while building something new.
Nawafidh Al-Watan is a space where Arab artists are not just invited.
We lead.
Our goals include:
Supporting local artists with grants, studio space, and exhibition opportunities
Creating platforms for intergenerational cultural exchange
Reclaiming Dearborn’s art scene from institutional gatekeeping
Offering programming rooted in cultural preservation, political awareness, and healing

“In a time of censorship, genocide, and deportations in our community, artists must mobilize.
Art has always been a cornerstone of our culture…woven into how we tell our stories, how we mourn, how we resist, and how we heal. From poetry and calligraphy to Dabkeh and Tatreez, our art is not just expression, it is memory, survival, and defiance.
That’s why it’s being erased. That’s why it’s being censored.
Our oppressors have always feared the power of our imagination, the way our art carries truth across generations.
Now more than ever, our community in Dearborn needs us to reclaim that power, loudly, unapologetically, and collectively. Because if we don’t tell our stories, they will. And they will tell them wrong.”
