Women Only Dabke Program

About the Program

Our Women-Only Dabkeh Program was created to provide Arab and SWANA women with a space to connect to their cultural roots through movement, music, and collective power - free from patriarchal judgment or cis-male dominance.

We believe that dismantling misogyny and patriarchy requires more than critique, it requires the active creation of joy-filled, healing-centered spaces for women to grow, connect, and move together.

In this program, we honor Dabkeh not only as a traditional dance but as a form of resistance, cultural preservation, and embodied liberation.
We build relationships.
We protect one another.
We lead with love.

Rooted in Resistance. Powered by Sisterhood.

Our Core Values

  • Cultural Reclamation:

We reclaim Dabkeh as a space of empowerment and connection for women and non-cis participants who have historically been excluded or silenced within cultural dance spaces.

  • Community Care:

Our sessions prioritize joy, safety, and healing. We apply abolitionist values and are committed to addressing harm, navigating conflict, and holding one another in accountable, loving ways.

  • Political & Cultural Education

We want to incorporate internal teach-ins, dialogues, and workshops throughout our programs to deepen our understanding of gender, resistance, and cultural survival.

Yasmin developed a program to teach Palestinian Dabkeh, to share the heritage & culture for means of preservation & experience. The curriculum can be utilized for both traditional Palestinian line dancing, as well as performative opportunities.

2025 Program Highlights

Our debut program is running from Feb through May 2025 at HYPE Athletics in Dearborn, where women are gathering twice a week to learn, move, and build together.

We are dancing, teaching, organizing. We will create something that will live far beyond the studio.

Looking Ahead

We are currently working toward forming a Dabkeh Troupe made up of program participants, who will have the opportunity to perform publicly, host workshops, and continue building movement-based community practices.

Our goal is to make this a sustainable, annual offering open to Arab/SWANA women and non-cis participants of all dance backgrounds and experience levels
